Bringing Bold Design to the Cider County
A bold logo and Bauhaus inspired brand design created for Apple County Cycles, an independent bicycle and accessories shop based in Wellington, Somerset.

The Design
Brief
Apple County Cycles is a cycle shop that opened in the outskirts of Wellington, with hopes to be a hub for cyclists from Somerset.
As genuine and experienced bike enthusiasts, Apple County Cycles specialise in supplying great value BMX, mountain bikes, kids bikes and electric bikes and have hopes to build a cycling community around the store by offering open days, mountain bike lessons and guided tours on the Quantock hills.
The store is close to the famous Sheppy’s Cider and surrounded by cider apple orchards, hence the name. A specific request was made for the design to include a BMX with apples for wheels and the design should resemble a cider bottle label...
The
Original
Concepts
The following concepts were developed and presented at PHASE #01 of Pie’s logo design process.
Each concept offers a unique interpretation of the brief, helping to define the brand’s potential, considering form, tone, and brand positioning, before refinement leads to the final identity.

CONCEPT
no.1
A design inspired by traditional cider bottle labels, using a retro font style and hand sketched apples for wheels, with a rustic colour palette of russet red and greens.
CONCEPT
no.2
A more contemporary design using simpler graphics and a textured font. The colour palette is inspired by red and green apples to be used against a contrasting black.
CONCEPT
no.3
Stepping away from the traditional cider bottle label, Concept 03 is more a trendy, vibrant, distressed design using a brighter, contrasting colour palette and textured typography.
The
Final Design
The funky, textured logo presented as concept No. 03 became the final logo design. Changes to the colour palette were made so the logo matched the bright yellow, red and blue decorative flooring inside the cycle store.
The use of these bold primary colors inspired a contemporary, 'Bauhaus like' brand style which features simple shapes of apples alongside black and muted shades of blue, red and yellow to soften the colour palette.
