One of my favourite projects over recent years has to be this! In 2016 Raj Sing approached me to design a logo and brand style for his new country clothing company: "Hawcombe Country Outfitters'. The company was based in Somerset, on the edge of Exmoor, a place synonymous with the outdoors. The brand style was inspired by a long forgotten era in the the early 20th century at Exmoor’s Dunster Castle, that played host to polo matches between British high society and visiting Indian Maharajas.
All of Hawcombe C.O.'s garments were made solely in Great Britain with exemplary fabrics and trims, like genuine horn buttons and pure wool tweed. The logo, like the clothing needed to and exude 'quality', along with intrigue, opulence and reinvention.
The brand story inspired lavish country greens; soft and feminine, heather like purples merged with colourful turbans and decadent jewels. The final logo was playful in design, using a balance of the expected (traditional fonts and image of a stag) with a more eclectic and stylised icon - a traditional stag presented in the style of Mehndi,(henna body art originating in Ancinet India).
Once the logo was created, we created the clothing labels, both woven and printed. In the design primarily using the word-mark with close up details, a 'slight reveal' of the unique stag design. The final printed labels perfectly reflected the traditional quality and longevity of the brand with high quality, letterpress printed labels.
Once the visual brand style was determined, it was time to promote on social media, mainly Instagram. Each post created had an element of the Hawckombe Country Outfitters brand style, either or both the word-mark and hints of the stag alongside natural elements of heather or feathers...
"We have worked with Emma for the past two years on bringing our brand to life
and consider her to be part of our core team.
As we have been working together from the start of the project Emma
understands what we stand for and ensures that all of our designs
are in sync with the ethos of Hawkcombe Country Outfitters.
We would wholeheartedly recommend using Emma
and believe that the work she has produced for us rivals anything
from the big creative agencies in London and other cities."
